Sydney Area HospitalTravel Plans
Client: North Sydney, Central Coast and South West Area Health Service
Location: Sydney, New South Wales
Ensuring hospital employees have convenient, multimodal commute options enables staff to spend more time focused on patients and less time stressed about transport. This collaboration with Sydney hospitals – first with Manly and Mona and now Liverpool hospital – has developed staff travel plans identifying clear actions to make it easier for employees to get to and from work. Recent work includes training staff in developing a travel plan and how to run site audits and staff surveys as the first steps in the plan.

Rosebank District Corporate
Sustainable Transport StrategiesClient: Auckland City Council
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
How do you enhance transport access and sustainability for 30-50 person companies located within one of Auckland's major commercial precincts? This project involved direct engagement with five small- to medium-sized enterprises in the Rosebank Business Precinct, including staff surveys, management consultation, and detailed site audits. The outcomes included new approaches toward collaboration with the Rosebank Business Association to pursue area-wide strategies, combined with specific strategies tailored to each business.

Auckland District Health Board
Hospital Travel PlanClient: Auckland City Council

Efficient transport access is important to delivering high quality health care services. That was the vision behind this project that brought together hospital staff, patient groups, local traffic engineers, and regional bus operators to develop a sustainable transport strategy for patients, visitors and staff of Auckland City Hospital and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. Planning tasks included in-depth surveys of hospital staff, patients and visitors; multimodal access reviews, site audits conducted with patients and staff, and assessments of communications channels and messages.

Airport Cycling & Walking Strategy
Client: Melbourne Airport
Location: Melbourne, Victoria
Airports present unique opportunities for enhancing transport efficiency, including managing the demand for staff travel and exploring economies of scale through business partnerships. This project involved drafting the cycling and walking components of the Airport's 2009 Ground Transport Plan, and included extensive field analysis (on foot and by bike), an employer survey, consultation with stakeholders, and formulation of recommended actions.

Knox Shopping Centre Precinct Travel Plan
Client: Victoria Department of Transport
Location: Melbourne, Victoria
How can you shift travel behaviour for shopping trips to large suburban shopping centres? How do you integrate planning for sustainable travel within suburban activity centres? This project brought together the major travel demand generators of the Knox Activity Centre, with a focus across all trip purposes in the area, including workers, students, and shoppers. Working with Knox City Council, AMP Capital, and the Department of Transport, UrbanTrans developed an integrated travel plan for the shopping centre, council offices and Swinburne University TAFE.

Under contract to Access Melbourne, UrbanTrans is actively working with over 40 businesses in Melbourne's CBD - including Telstra, Optus, NAB, ANZ Bank, Fujitsu, Lend Lease, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Ericsson, and others - to develop efficient and sustainable transport strategies that move businesses forward.
